Celebrating Love

A few years ago during a girls night out, a writer friend of mind was complaining about how the sparks had gone out of her decade old marriage. After listening to a whole litany of complaints I asked her why she didn’t take more initiative to light the fire.

The pregnant pause told me she needed a bit of help in the creative romance department. So, to help her out, we all decided to come up with suggestions on how we would celebrate our love with a significant other over time. The list we came up with on that day was so good I wrote them all down. I share below what I believe are the top 10 ways of celebrating love, in honor of Harvey and his lovely Beloved Wife’s 6th Anniversary.

H&L, may the sparks you feel for each other keep lighting your lives forever.

Top 10 Ways to Celebrate Your Love:

1. Book a romantic getaway at a bed and breakfast without letting him know. Kidnap him by giving false pretenses and pick him up early from work! If possible let his boss know that he will be coming in late on Monday.

2. Decide to make a date at a new bar/restaurant. Pretend you’ve never met before and play out the scene of interested strangers. Surprise him by showing up in a wig and outfit he’s never seen before.

3. Take a few dance lessons together and don’t tell anyone. It will be your private little secret. Then make a date to romance each other on a dance floor.

4. Transform your bedroom into a relaxing sanctuary with dim lights and scented candles. Offer him a full body massage with aromatherapy oils. Afterwards run him a soothing hot bath and later, tuck him in bed.

5. Call him up, after making sure he has 15 minutes to spare, tell him you had an incredible sexy dream about him. Then describe it in great detail. Expect him to be home early. Greet him at the door with a smile and his favorite beverage.

6. Give him a gift certificate to your favorite lingerie store and have him pick out something special he would like to see you in. Then make plans for the unveiling or unwrapping night.

7. Plan to prepare dinner together and bring the radio into the kitchen. Start the meal preparation by drinking a bit of wine and having a slow dance.

8. Arrange for a play date at the local park, just the 2 of you. Walk around holding hands and pretend your teenagers.

9. Spend a rainy afternoon browsing in a bookstore, then come together and share your finds. Before you leave buy each other at least one book.

10. Be each other’s private dancer for one night. The effort alone will be so touching it will endear you to each other and will guarantee a fun evening.

Bonus: Give each other a get out of jail free card. If one of you does something incredibly dumb to land you in the dog house, you can bring up the card after a 24 hr cooling off period. Use it wisely as you only get one per year.

There's more, but they are intended for my personal use someday. Use these as a springboard for your own creative, fun and romantic ideas to share with the one you love. May it be fun and blissful.
